Middle School “Collège”

The middle school cycle, known as Collège in the French system, welcomes students between the ages of 11 and 14. This period represents a phase of deepening knowledge and personal development. Critical thinking, the organization of individual work and the ability to collaborate as a group are encouraged, in a demanding and stimulating trilingual framework.

Objectives

During these four years, students leave primary education behind to assume new responsibilities and discover a greater diversity of subjects. This is a decisive stage in strengthening skills and preparing for the move to the Lycée.

The main objectives of the Collège are:

  • Guiding students toward independent learning.
  • Achieve advanced fluency in French, Spanish, and English.
  • Develop analytical, argumentative, logical thinking and written expression skills.
  • Introduce students to the scientific method, to documentary research and to the responsible use of technology.
  • To promote active and conscious citizenship, in harmony with the republican values of the French education system.

In addition, students are prepared to present the Diplôme National du Brevet (DNB) at the end of 9th grade, which certifies the level of competencies acquired.

Organization of the day

The school day at Collège is structured to respond to the new academic challenges of adolescents. The schedules are extended, more subjects are introduced and each area of knowledge is led by specialist teachers.

School time combines:

  • Classes in core subjects such as language and literature, mathematics, history, geography and science.
  • English and Spanish courses with different approaches: oral expression, grammar, text comprehension and cultural context.
  • Complementary disciplines such as physical education, music, technology, art and educational guidance.
  • Spaces for independent or group work, depending on pedagogical projects.

Tutorial support is key during these years: students learn to organize their time, prepare evaluations, work on projects and progressively take over the management of their learning.
